Shawn Crahan

Early Life and Personal Background

Michael Shawn Crahan, widely known as "Clown," was born in the United States and has made a significant mark in the music industry as a percussionist. He married his wife, Chantel, in June 1993 in Des Moines, Iowa, and together they have four children. Tragically, they faced the loss of their second youngest child in 2019 at the age of 22. Beyond music, Crahan is also a talented filmographer and photographer, having published a photo album titled "The Apocalyptic Nightmare" in 2012.

Career with Slipknot

Crahan co-founded the iconic heavy metal band Slipknot in 1995 alongside bassist Paul Gray and former vocalist Anders Colsefni. Initially known as the Pale Ones, the band evolved into Slipknot after a name change suggested by drummer Joey Jordison. Crahan's vision for a layered percussion sound led him to focus on percussion while bringing in Jordison as the primary drummer. Slipknot's self-titled debut album was released in 1999, marking the band's rise to fame, particularly after their notable tour with Ozzfest that same year. Crahan is recognized as the longest-serving member of Slipknot and has contributed not only as a percussionist but also as a backing vocalist and songwriter, notably for the track "Tattered & Torn."

Artistic Ventures

In addition to his work with Slipknot, Crahan has explored various artistic avenues. He made his acting debut in the film "The Devil's Carnival" in 2012 and directed the action thriller "Officer Downe" in 2016. His son, Simon, has followed in his footsteps, playing drums in the band Vended, which includes the son of fellow Slipknot member Corey Taylor. Crahan's multifaceted career showcases his dedication to both music and film, solidifying his legacy in the entertainment industry.
