Early Life

Sir Patrick Alfred Caldwell-Moore was born on March 4, 1923, in Pinner, Middlesex, to Captain Charles Trachsel Caldwell-Moore and Gertrude White. His family later moved to Bognor Regis and then to East Grinstead, where he spent his childhood. Despite facing health challenges due to heart problems, Moore developed a passion for astronomy at a young age, joining the British Astronomical Association at just 11 years old. By 14, he was running a small observatory, showcasing his early commitment to the field. During World War II, he served in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, where he trained as a navigator and pilot.
