Ska-P

Formation

Ska-P, a vibrant Spanish ska punk band, was formed in 1994 in Vallecas, Madrid, by a group of friends from various regions including Madrid, Navarre, and Euskadi. The original lineup featured Pulpul (lead vocals and guitar), Toni Escobar (guitar and vocals), Julio (bass), Kogote (keyboard and vocals), and Pako (drums). Their debut album, the self-titled "Ska-P," was released that same year under AZ Records, gaining them initial recognition, particularly for the track "Como un rayo," which resonated with local football fans.

Rise to Fame

The band's journey took a significant turn in 1995 when guitarist Toni left due to scheduling conflicts, leading to Joxemi joining the group. Pipi, a friend of Pulpul, also became a member, taking on the role of secondary vocalist. Their second album, "El vals del obrero," released in 1996, marked a pivotal moment in their career, featuring the hit song "Cannabis" and solidifying their reputation in the ska punk scene. Their participation in the Vallekas Rock Festival further boosted their visibility.

Continued Success and Influence

In the late 1990s, Ska-P recorded their third album, "Eurosis," and embarked on their first world tour, expanding their fanbase beyond Spain. The band's energetic performances and socially conscious lyrics have made them influential figures in the punk and ska genres, resonating with audiences who appreciate their blend of music and activism. With a lineup that has remained stable over the years, including core members Pulpul, Julio, Kogote, and Pipi, Ska-P continues to be a significant force in the music scene, known for their engaging live shows and impactful messages.
