Formation

Swedish House Mafia (SHM) is a renowned Swedish electronic music group formed in late 2008, consisting of three prominent DJs: Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso. The trio's roots trace back to the late 1990s and early 2000s when they performed as solo artists. Their collaboration began informally, with Angello and Ingrosso, childhood friends from Stockholm, often working together. The name "Swedish House Mafia" emerged from fans and friends who recognized their growing presence in the music scene, officially adopted by the group in late 2008 after the departure of fellow DJ Eric Prydz, who chose to focus on solo projects.

Breakthrough

The group quickly made a name for themselves in the electronic dance music (EDM) scene, credited with bringing progressive house music into the mainstream. Their first major release was the single "Leave the World Behind" in 2009, followed by the iconic tracks "One" and "Miami 2 Ibiza" in 2010, which solidified their status as leading figures in the genre. They released several successful albums, including "Until One" and "Until Now," and their live performances became legendary, culminating in the 2013 farewell tour, "One Last Tour."

Reunion and Legacy

After a hiatus, Swedish House Mafia reunited in 2018, continuing to influence the EDM landscape with their innovative sound. They have been recognized with numerous awards, including the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Swedish Act, and have inspired a new generation of artists, including Alesso and Avicii. Their impact on the music industry is profound, having paved the way for the EDM boom of the early 2010s and leaving a lasting legacy in the world of dance music.
