Енвер Ізмайлов

Early Life

Enver İzmaylov was born on June 12, 1955, in Fergana, which was then part of the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic. He hails from a Crimean Tatar family that had been deported from Crimea, a region he would later return to in 1989. Although he began playing guitar at the age of fifteen, İzmaylov pursued formal music education in bassoon at the Fergana Music School, graduating in 1973.

Career

Izmaylov's musical journey took a significant turn when he joined the band Sato, led by Leonid Atabekov, where he contributed to albums such as "Efsane" (1986) and "Pass the Good Around" (1987). After furthering his education at Tashkent University, he embarked on a solo career that would see him gain international recognition. In 1995, he won the First European International Guitar Competition in Lausanne, Switzerland, and was named Musician of the Year by Ukrainian music critics. His performances have taken him across various countries, including Ukraine, Russia, and the United States.

Izmaylov is known for his unique tapping style on the electric guitar and has collaborated with notable musicians such as French keyboardist Xavier Garcia and Turkish drummer Burhan Ocal. He also founded the Art Trio of Crimea, showcasing his commitment to blending traditional Crimean Tatar music with jazz influences. In addition to his guitar work, he is recognized as a throatsinger, further enriching his artistic repertoire.

Achievements

Throughout his career, İzmaylov has received several prestigious awards, including the title of People's Artist of Ukraine and Merited Artist of Ukraine. His contributions to music have not only highlighted his talent but also brought attention to the rich cultural heritage of the Crimean Tatar people, making him a significant figure in the world of jazz and folk music.
