Early Life and Education

Khrystyna Ivanivna Soloviy was born on January 17, 1993, in Drohobych, Ukraine, into a musical family. Her mother was a choir teacher at the Drohobych Music School, and her grandmother led a bandurist ensemble, instilling a love for music in her from a young age. Soloviy graduated from music school in 2011, where she studied piano, and later sang in a Lemko choir after her family moved to Lviv. She also completed a philology program at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.

Career

Soloviy's musical journey took off in 2013 when she participated in "Holos Krayiny," the Ukrainian version of The Voice, where she performed the Lemko song "Gore dolom hozhu" and joined Svyatoslav Vakarchuk's team. Although she did not win, her performance garnered significant support, leading her to pursue a music career. In 2015, she released her debut album "Zhyva voda," which featured a mix of original songs and Lemko folk music, quickly becoming one of the top Ukrainian albums of the year. Her music videos, particularly for the song "Trymai," have amassed millions of views, solidifying her status in the Ukrainian music scene.

Political Activism

Beyond her music, Soloviy is known for her activism. She has supported animal rights initiatives and was vocal in her support for Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov during his imprisonment in Russia. Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, she performed internationally to raise funds for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, reportedly raising over €106,000 by August 2022. Soloviy remains active in promoting humanitarian causes and continues to inspire her fans with her dedication to Ukraine's cultural and political landscape.

Personal Life

Raised in a religious family, Soloviy's beliefs evolved over time, leading her to identify as an atheist after a period of intense religious practice. She was in a relationship with notable Ukrainian writer Serhiy Zhadan from 2022 to 2023, which ended due to their demanding schedules. Soloviy's personal experiences and relationships often influence her songwriting, adding depth to her artistic expression.
