Chalermpol Malakham

Early Life and Career

Chalermpol Malakham was born on October 10, 1962, in Surin Province, Thailand. He had a modest education, finishing only up to Primary 4, but his passion for music led him to participate in a singing contest presented by Radio Thailand in Surin. His career took off with the release of his first album, "Sa Uen Uai Porn," but it was the 1990 hit "Tam Jai Mae Terd Nong" that catapulted him to fame, particularly in the Mor lam genre, which gained popularity both nationally and internationally. Following his rise to stardom, Chalermpol relocated to Ubon Ratchathani Province.

Personal Life and Activities

In addition to his music career, Chalermpol ventured into politics by registering as a member of the House of Representatives from the Chartthaipattana Party during the 2011 Thai general election. However, he chose to retire from politics in the subsequent election due to his wife's opposition. Since 2013, he has taken on the role of headman in Ban Tha Charoen, Tambon Thalad, Warinchamlab District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, although he continues to perform occasionally on stage. Known for his contributions to the luk thung and mor lam music styles, Chalermpol is also recognized for his performances in Kantrum, and he often sings in both Thai and Northern Khmer, showcasing his diverse musical talents.
