Early Life

Takeshi Kaneshiro was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, to a Japanese businessman and a Taiwanese homemaker. He has two elder half-brothers and graduated from Taipei Japanese Junior High School before attending Taipei American School. During his secondary education, he began working in television commercials, which led him to leave school to pursue a full-time career in music and acting. Fluent in Mandarin, Hokkien, Japanese, and conversational in Cantonese and English, Kaneshiro's multicultural background has influenced his artistic journey.

Career

Kaneshiro made his singing debut in 1992 under the nickname "Aniki," releasing his first album, "Heartbreaking Night." He quickly transitioned into acting, with his film debut in "Executioners" (1993) and gaining fame through Wong Kar-wai's films, including "Chungking Express" (1994) and "Fallen Angels" (1995). His unique performances often defied his pop idol image, showcasing his versatility as an actor. Although he no longer produces commercial music, he has performed in films like "Perhaps Love" (2005) and "See You Tomorrow" (2016).

Personal Life

A practicing Buddhist since 1997, Kaneshiro values humility despite his fame, often avoiding the media spotlight. He has expressed a desire for a family-oriented life, stating that if he were to marry and have children, he would prioritize family responsibilities. His dedication to both his craft and personal values has earned him admiration in the entertainment industry.

Legacy

Kaneshiro's contributions to film and music have not gone unnoticed; he was recognized as one of the ten best international actors of the decade at the 2010 Green Planet Film Awards.
