Formation

5 Seconds of Summer, often abbreviated as 5SOS, is an Australian pop rock band formed in Sydney in 2011. The group consists of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Luke Hemmings, lead guitarist Michael Clifford, bassist Calum Hood, and drummer Ashton Irwin. The band originated when Hemmings, Clifford, and Hood, who were high school friends at Norwest Christian College, began posting cover songs on Hemmings' YouTube channel. In December 2011, they invited Irwin to join, completing their lineup. Their first performance took place at the Annandale Hotel in Sydney, where they played for a small audience of just 12 people.

Breakthrough

5 Seconds of Summer gained significant attention after touring with One Direction on their Take Me Home Tour, which propelled them to international fame. Their debut EP, "Unplugged," reached number 3 on the iTunes chart in Australia, marking the beginning of their successful music career. The band has since released several albums, including their self-titled debut, "Sounds Good Feels Good," "Youngblood," "CALM," and "5SOS5," showcasing their evolution from pop-punk roots to a more diverse pop-rock sound.
