Formation

Air is a French electronic music duo formed in 1995 in Versailles, consisting of Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel. Before their collaboration, both members had musical backgrounds; Godin studied architecture while Dunckel pursued mathematics. They initially played together in a band called Orange, alongside other musicians, before deciding to create Air. Their early work included remixes for various artists, which helped them gain recognition in the music scene.

Breakthrough

The duo's breakthrough came with the release of their debut album, "Moon Safari," on January 16, 1998. The album featured the hit single "Sexy Boy," which propelled them to international fame. Following this success, they released several acclaimed albums, including "The Virgin Suicides," which served as the score for Sofia Coppola's debut film. Air's unique sound blends elements of electronica, space pop, and dream pop, drawing inspiration from a wide range of musical styles and artists, including Kraftwerk and Pink Floyd.

Legacy

Over the years, Air has continued to evolve, releasing albums such as "10 000 Hz Legend," "Talkie Walkie," and "Pocket Symphony." Their innovative approach to music has earned them numerous accolades, including awards for their contributions to electronic and original music for cinema.
