Air Supply

Formation and Early Years

Air Supply, a British-Australian soft rock group, was formed in Melbourne, Australia, in 1975 by English singer-songwriter and guitarist Graham Russell and Australian singer Russell Hitchcock. The duo met while rehearsing for the Australian production of the musical "Jesus Christ Superstar," where they were part of the chorus. After touring Australia and New Zealand for 18 months, they decided to form a harmony vocal group, initially including Chrissie Hammond, who later left to pursue a hard rock project. Following her departure, Jeremy Paul joined as the bassist and backing vocalist, solidifying the group's lineup.

Key Releases and Evolution

Throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, Air Supply released a series of successful albums, including "Love and Other Bruises," "Lost in Love," and "The One That You Love." Their soft rock sound, characterized by melodic harmonies and emotional lyrics, resonated with audiences, leading to numerous hits. The group continued to evolve, with various lineup changes over the years, including the addition of members like David Green and Rex Goh. Despite these changes, the core duo of Russell and Hitchcock remained the heart of Air Supply.

Legacy and Recognition

Air Supply's influence on the soft rock genre is undeniable, with their music crossing generations. They were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2013, recognizing their significant contributions to the Australian music scene. Their timeless songs and unique sound have made them one of Australia's most successful musical stories, continuing to perform and connect with fans worldwide.
