Al Bano Carrisi, born on May 20, 1943, in Cellino San Marco, Apulia, Italy, is a celebrated Italian singer and actor. His mother, Iolanda Ottino, named him Albano in honor of his father, Carmelo Carrisi, who was serving in Albania during World War II. Growing up in a musical environment, Al Bano developed a passion for singing early on, which would later define his career.

Career

Carrisi's professional journey began in 1966 when he made his debut as a singer at the Festival delle Rose and on television. His breakthrough came in 1968 when he won the Un disco per l'estate contest with "Pensando a te." He quickly gained popularity with hits like "La siepe" and "Nel sole," the latter selling over a million copies in Italy. In 1970, he married Romina Power, and together they formed the iconic duo Al Bano & Romina Power, captivating audiences across Europe and beyond for nearly three decades. Their collaboration produced numerous hits, including "Felicità" and "Ci sarà," and they participated in the Eurovision Song Contest twice.

Al Bano's impressive vocal range and ability to blend pop with operatic elements have earned him acclaim worldwide. As of 2023, he has participated in 15 editions of the Sanremo Music Festival, tying the record for most participations. Personal Life

Al Bano's personal life has been as eventful as his career. He and Romina Power had four children, including Ylenia, who tragically went missing in 1994. After separating in 1999 and finalizing their divorce in 2012, the couple reunited professionally in 2013 for a concert in Moscow.
