Alan Parsons

Early Life

Alan Parsons was born on December 20, 1948, in the United States. He comes from a musically inclined family; his father, Denys Parsons, was a talented pianist and flautist, as well as a scientist and filmmaker. Denys developed the Parsons Code for classifying musical melodies and authored a notable book on musical themes. This rich musical heritage undoubtedly influenced Alan's career path.

Career

Parsons began his professional journey in music at EMI, where he worked in the tape duplication department. His big break came when he managed to secure a position as an assistant engineer at Abbey Road Studios in October 1967, at just 18 years old. He contributed to iconic projects, including engineering Pink Floyd's legendary album "The Dark Side of the Moon," which earned him his first Grammy nomination. Throughout his career, Parsons has worked with various artists, including Al Stewart, for whom he transformed the song "Year of the Cat" into a chart-topping hit. He is also known for his work with The Alan Parsons Project, a progressive rock band that produced several successful albums, including "Eye in the Sky" and "Tales of Mystery and Imagination."
