Alan Thicke

Early Life

Alan Willis Thicke was born on March 1, 1947, in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Canada. He was the son of Shirley "Joan" Isobel Marie, a nurse, and William Jeffrey, a stockbroker. After his parents divorced in 1953, Thicke's mother remarried, and the family moved to Elliot Lake, where he took his stepfather's surname. Thicke graduated from Elliot Lake Secondary School in 1965 and later attended the University of Western Ontario, where he joined the Delta Upsilon fraternity.

Career

Thicke's career spanned several decades, during which he became a well-known actor, songwriter, and television host. He gained fame for his role as Dr. Jason Seaver on the popular 1980s sitcom "Growing Pains". Beyond acting, Thicke was a prolific composer of television theme songs, collaborating with various artists. He hosted several game shows, including the Canadian game show "Face the Music" and the American late-night talk show "Thicke of the Night", which was heavily promoted as a competitor to NBC's "The Tonight Show". His contributions to television earned him a nomination for a Golden Globe Award in 1988.

Personal Life

Thicke was married three times, first to actress Gloria Loring, with whom he had two sons, including singer Robin Thicke. His second marriage was to Miss World 1990 Gina Tolleson, with whom he had a son, Carter. In 2005, he married Tanya Callau, whom he met in Miami. Thicke was also known for his philanthropic efforts, particularly in supporting diabetes research through the Alan Thicke Center. He co-hosted the annual telethon "Telemiracle" with Loring, raising funds for community programs in Saskatchewan.

Legacy

Alan Thicke's contributions to entertainment were recognized posthumously when he was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame in 2013. He received several accolades throughout his career, including a star named after him in the International Star Registry and the Canadian Icon award at the Whistler Film Festival in 2016. Thicke's legacy continues through his work in television and his influence on future generations of entertainers.
