Early Life

Alexander Igorevich Rybak, born on May 13, 1986, in Minsk, Belarus, is a Belarusian-Norwegian singer, composer, violinist, pianist, and actor. His father, Igor Rybak, a classical violinist, defected to Norway in 1991 after a concert tour, and Alexander, along with his mother Natalia, followed later on a tourist visa. The family faced challenges in settling in Norway, initially being denied a residence permit, but they eventually received Norwegian citizenship after seven years. Rybak began playing the piano at age five and later switched to the violin, studying at the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Music in violin performance in 2012.

Career

Rybak's career took off after winning the 54th Eurovision Song Contest in 2009 with his song "Fairytale," which earned him a record 387 points. This victory catapulted him into the spotlight, leading to extensive touring across Europe, particularly in Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. He has released several albums, including "Fairytales" and "No Boundaries," and has collaborated with notable artists like Morten Harket of a-ha. Rybak has a half-sister from his father's previous marriage, whom he met for the first time in 2012.
