Amália da Piedade Rodrigues, born on July 23, 1920, in Portugal, emerged from a humble background as one of nine children, with only five surviving to adulthood. She married Francisco Cruz in 1940, but their relationship was short-lived, leading to a divorce in 1946. In 1961, she found love again in Rio de Janeiro with César Seabra, remaining married until his death in 1997.
