Amber Benson

Early Life

Amber Benson was born on January 8, 1977, in Birmingham, Alabama. Growing up in a diverse household, her father, a psychiatrist, was Jewish, while her mother was raised Southern Baptist. This unique background influenced her upbringing, as she attended a Reform synagogue in Alabama. She has a younger sister who is an artist, showcasing a family inclination towards creativity.

Career

Benson's career began at the young age of 14 when she made her feature film debut in Steven Soderbergh's "King of the Hill." However, she is best known for her role as Tara Maclay on the iconic television series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" from 1999 to 2002. Tara, who became the girlfriend of Willow Rosenberg, played by Alyson Hannigan, was a beloved character whose journey resonated with many fans. Notably, Benson showcased her musical talents in the show's acclaimed musical episode, "Once More, with Feeling," where she performed several songs, including her solo, "Under Your Spell."

In addition to acting, Benson has made significant contributions as a writer and director. She co-wrote the film "The Theory of the Leisure Class" and directed her own projects, including the digital feature "Chance" in 2002. Her artistic endeavors extend beyond film, as she has collaborated on various creative projects, including a play titled "Albert Hall in Hollywood."

As of 2007, she resides in Los Angeles and describes herself as a "lapsed vegetarian."
