Early Life

Andrés Arturo García Menéndez, known as Andy García, was born on April 12, 1956, in Havana, Cuba. His family moved to Miami, Florida, when he was just five years old, following the failed Bay of Pigs Invasion. Growing up in a family of Spanish descent, Garcia was raised as a Catholic and attended Miami Beach Senior High School, where he played basketball. His passion for acting ignited during his senior year after a bout of mononucleosis led him to take a drama class. He later graduated from Florida International University, where he met his future wife, Marivi Lorido.

Career

Andy Garcia married Marivi Lorido on September 24, 1982, after dating for seven years. The couple has four children, including their son Andrés, who has become a DJ in Los Angeles and Miami. Garcia is known for his strong views against the Cuban regime and has publicly expressed his sorrow for the Cuban people under Fidel Castro's rule. He remains active in the arts and has participated in various humanitarian efforts, including signing an open letter condemning violence against Israel in 2023.
