Early Life

Allan Pineda Lindo, known professionally as Apl.de.ap, was born on November 28, 1974, in Angeles City, Philippines. His early life was marked by challenges, as his African American father, an airman stationed at Clark Air Base, left shortly after his birth. Raised by his Filipino mother, Cristina Pineda, Apl.de.ap helped support his family by farming sweet potatoes, corn, sugar cane, and rice. At the age of 11, he moved to the United States for treatment of nystagmus, a condition that causes involuntary eye movement. After being adopted by Joe Ben Hudgens, he settled in Los Angeles, where he attended John Marshall High School and met future collaborator will.i.am.

Musical Career

Apl.de.ap's musical journey began in 1988 when he and will.i.am started rapping together. They initially formed a group called Atban Klann, which signed with Ruthless Records in 1992. After the death of Eazy-E, they rebranded as the Black Eyed Peas, adding members Taboo and Kim Hill. The group gained fame with their debut album, "Behind the Front," in 1998, and their second album, "Bridging the Gap," in 2000. Apl.de.ap's unique style and contributions helped the group earn critical acclaim and numerous awards, including six Grammy Awards.

Personal Life

In addition to his musical talents, Apl.de.ap is fluent in English and speaks two Philippine languages, Tagalog and Kapampangan. He has been open about his struggles with vision due to nystagmus and underwent surgery to improve his eyesight. His journey from the Philippines to becoming a global music icon is a testament to his resilience and dedication to his craft.
