Baltimora

Formation

Baltimora was formed in 1985 by music producer Maurizio Bassi and singer Jimmy McShane in Milan, Italy. The duo chose the name Baltimora after McShane randomly pointed to Baltimore on a map, altering the name to reflect their Italian roots. Bassi, who was instrumental in the project, recruited talented Italian session musicians, including guitarist Giorgio Cocilovo, to help bring their musical vision to life.

Breakthrough

The group achieved significant success with their debut single "Tarzan Boy," released in April 1985. The track became a massive hit across Europe, reaching No. 6 on the Italian charts and entering the top 5 in several other countries. Following this success, they released their first album, "Living in the Background," which showcased their Italo disco and new wave style. Another notable single, "Woody Boogie," also gained popularity, particularly in Italy.

Disbandment and Legacy

Despite their early success, Baltimora disbanded in 1987 after a brief but impactful career. They are often regarded as a one-hit wonder in the UK and the US, primarily remembered for "Tarzan Boy." However, their influence in the Italo disco genre remains significant, with their music continuing to resonate with fans of the style. The group’s unique blend of catchy melodies and danceable beats has left a lasting mark on the genre, ensuring their place in music history.
