Brenda Mae Tarpley, known professionally as Brenda Lee, was born on December 11, 1944, in Atlanta, Georgia. The second of four children, she was raised in a modest household where her father, a U.S. Army veteran, worked various labor jobs. Despite financial struggles, Brenda's family nurtured her early interest in music, with her father crafting toys and her grandmother sewing her dresses. By the age of five, she had already won her first talent contest, showcasing her natural singing ability.

Career

Lee's career took off in 1955 when she caught the attention of country star Red Foley, leading to her signing with Decca Records at just 11 years old.
