Early Life

Peter Gene Hernandez, known professionally as Bruno Mars, was born on October 8, 1985, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Growing up in a musical family, he was exposed to a variety of genres, including rock and roll, reggae, hip-hop, and rhythm and blues. His father, of Puerto Rican and Ashkenazi Jewish descent, and his mother, who emigrated from the Philippines, both had musical backgrounds that influenced Mars from a young age. By the age of four, he was performing with his family's band, the Love Notes, and gained local fame for his impersonation of Elvis Presley.

Career

Mars moved to Los Angeles in 2003 to pursue a music career, where he quickly made a name for himself as a singer-songwriter and record producer.
