Early Life

Carey Hannah Mulligan was born on May 28, 1985, in London, England, to Nano and Stephen Mulligan. Her father, a hotel manager of Irish descent, and her mother, a university lecturer from Wales, instilled in her a love for the arts from a young age. Mulligan's interest in acting was sparked at the age of six when she watched her brother perform in a school production of "The King and I." This early exposure led her to join the chorus of the play, and she later became heavily involved in theatre during her teenage years at Woldingham School, where she served as the head of the drama department.

Career

Mulligan made her stage debut in 2004 and quickly transitioned to film, gaining recognition for her role as Kitty Bennet in the 2005 adaptation of "Pride & Prejudice." Her television debut came later that year in the acclaimed BBC adaptation of "Bleak House."
