Early Life

Svetlana Ražnatović, better known as Ceca, was born on June 14, 1973, in Prokuplje, Serbia, and raised in the nearby town of Žitorađa. She has a younger sister named Lidija and graduated from high school with a focus on agriculture. Ceca's musical journey began when she was discovered by Serbian accordionist Mirko Kodić while vacationing in Sutomore, leading her to Belgrade where she made her recording debut.

Career

Ceca's rise to fame began in 1988 when she competed at the Ilidža Folk Music Festival in Sarajevo, winning first prize for her debut performance. Her first album, "Cvetak zanovetak," was released the same year and sold 350,000 copies. Over the years, she released numerous successful albums, including "Ludo srce" and "Šta je to u tvojim venama," solidifying her status as one of the most commercially successful Serbian artists with over seven million records sold. Ceca is known for her contributions to the turbo-folk and folk-pop genres, and her music continues to resonate with fans across the region.

Personal Life

Ceca's personal life has been marked by significant events, including her marriage to paramilitary commander Željko "Arkan" Ražnatović in 1995, which was dubbed a "Serbian fairytale" by the media. The couple had two children, Veljko and Anastasija. Tragically, Arkan was assassinated in 2000, an event that deeply affected Ceca. She faced legal challenges following the assassination of Prime Minister Zoran Đinđić in 2003, spending 121 days in custody but was ultimately released due to lack of evidence. Despite these challenges, Ceca remains a beloved figure in Serbian music, known for her resilience and talent.
