Chicago

Formation

Chicago, originally formed in 1967 in Chicago, Illinois, began as a group called the Big Thing. The founding members included saxophonist Walter Parazaider, guitarist Terry Kath, drummer Danny Seraphine, trombonist James Pankow, trumpet player Lee Loughnane, and keyboardist/singer Robert Lamm. They initially played Top 40 hits in local nightclubs before inviting tenor and bassist Peter Cetera to join, completing their lineup.

Breakthrough

In 1968, the band changed their name to Chicago Transit Authority after signing with Columbia Records. They gained significant exposure while performing at the Whisky a Go Go in Los Angeles, leading to their self-titled debut album, "Chicago Transit Authority," which showcased their unique blend of rock and jazz. Over the years, Chicago released numerous successful albums, including "Chicago II," "Chicago V," and "Chicago X," solidifying their place in music history with hits like "If You Leave Me Now" and "25 or 6 to 4."

Legacy

Chicago's music has transcended generations, featuring in various films and television shows, and their songs have been covered by over 90 artists. The band has received numerous accolades, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016 and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. With a lineup that has evolved over the decades, including notable members like Jason Scheff and Bill Champlin, Chicago continues to perform and influence new artists, maintaining their status as a legendary rock band.
