Early Life

Christopher Ryan Hardwick was born on November 23, 1971, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Billy Hardwick, a professional ten-pin bowler, and Sharon Hills, a real estate agent. He grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, where he developed a passion for comedy and entertainment. Hardwick was raised in the Roman Catholic faith and had a notable childhood friendship with comedian Joan Rivers. He excelled academically, becoming the 1983 Memphis City Junior High Chess Champion, and later attended several high schools before graduating from Loyola High School in Los Angeles. He pursued philosophy at UCLA, where he graduated in 1993 and formed a lasting friendship with actor Wil Wheaton.

Career

Hardwick's career began in the mid-1990s as a DJ on KROQ-FM in Los Angeles. He transitioned into acting, appearing in various television shows and films, including Rob Zombie's horror films and the UPN comedy "Guys Like Us." He gained prominence as a television host, notably for "Talking Dead" and "Talking with Chris Hardwick," and created the Nerdist Industries, which includes the popular Nerdist Podcast. His podcasting career has been prolific, with over 1,145 episodes broadcast as of June 2025. Hardwick is also a contributing writer for Wired and has published a self-help book, "The Nerdist Way: How to Reach the Next Level (In Real Life)."

Personal Life

Hardwick is a recovering alcoholic, having been sober since October 2003. He has had several high-profile relationships, including engagements and a marriage to model Lydia Hearst in 2016. The couple welcomed their first child in January 2022. Despite facing personal challenges, including allegations of emotional and sexual abuse from a former girlfriend, Hardwick continues to thrive in his career and personal life, residing in Los Feliz, Los Angeles, with his family.
