Early Life

Christopher Anthony John Martin was born on March 2, 1977, in Exeter, Devon, England, as the eldest of five children. His father, Anthony John Martin, was a chartered accountant, while his mother, Alison Martin, was a music teacher from Zimbabwe. Martin's family has a rich history in business, with his grandfather founding a caravan and motorhome sales company in 1929. At the age of 10, Martin lived in Zimbabwe, where he began to cultivate his passion for music. He attended various schools, including Sherborne School, where he met Phil Harvey, who would later become Coldplay's manager. During his school years, Martin was involved in music, even leading the Sting fan club and playing in a blues band.

Career

In 1996, while studying at University College London, Martin co-founded Coldplay with Jonny Buckland. The band initially went through several name changes before settling on Coldplay in 1998. Their debut album, "Parachutes," released in 2000, catapulted them to international fame, particularly with the hit single "Yellow."
