Career

Marot became the most important poet at the court of Francis I, where he gained recognition for his innovative style and contributions to poetry. His literary prowess was supported by Marguerite de Valois-Angoulême, the sister of King Francis I, who played a crucial role in his career. However, Marot's strong leanings toward the Reformation led to conflicts with the authorities, resulting in several imprisonments and two periods of exile throughout his life. Despite these challenges, he continued to produce influential works until his death on September 12, 1544.
