Early Life

Christopher Nicholas Sarantakos, known professionally as Criss Angel, was born on December 19, 1967, in Hempstead, New York. Raised in Elmont and later East Meadow, he developed a fascination with magic at the tender age of seven, inspired by the legendary Harry Houdini. By age 12, he was already performing for audiences, earning his first paycheck of $10. His early performances included making his mother float in their family home, showcasing his budding talent. After high school, Angel chose to pursue a career in magic over college, embarking on a journey that would see him tour with various performance acts while self-studying the history of magic and other arts.

Career

Criss Angel's career took off in the mid-1990s when he made his television debut in a special called "Secrets". He collaborated with horror director Clive Barker and formed the musical group Angeldust, releasing their first album in 1998. His innovative blend of magic and music led to the creation of his iconic show, "Criss Angel Mindfreak", which began as an off-Broadway production before becoming a television series. Throughout his career, Angel has released several albums, including the "System" trilogy and the soundtrack for "Mindfreak". His unique style and vision have earned him a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, solidifying his status as a prominent figure in the entertainment industry.

Personal Life

Criss Angel's personal life has been as eventful as his career. He married JoAnn Winkhart in 2002, but the couple divorced four years later. He has had high-profile relationships, including a brief romance with Holly Madison. In 2011, he proposed to Sandra Gonzalez, but they separated shortly after. Since 2012, he has been in a relationship with Australian singer Shaunyl Benson, with whom he shares three children. Angel is also known for his philanthropic efforts, founding the Believe Foundation and receiving accolades from the Make-A-Wish Foundation for his support of children in need. His business ventures reportedly generate around $70 million annually, showcasing his success beyond magic and music.
