Early Life

Kateryna Yeremenko, known by her stage name DaKooka, was born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine, into a Russian-speaking family. From a young age, she was surrounded by music, as her grandmother sang lullabies in Russian. This early exposure to music inspired her passion, leading her to graduate from music school with a degree in piano. Yeremenko's nickname, "Kooka," evolved into her artistic persona when she added "da" to create "DaKooka" for her email address.

Career

DaKooka began her musical journey at the age of 18 when she wrote her first song and shared it on Vkontakte. She started performing in local pubs in Chernivtsi and eventually formed the Dakooka Live Band, touring across Ukraine. In March 2015, she released her debut album, "Radha," which featured 11 tracks in English and was recorded at Ternopil's "Shpital Records." The album was named after the Indian goddess of love, reflecting her eclectic influences.

In 2016, she released the mini-album "Очень весело с моими друзьями" in Russian, and by 2017, she had transitioned to a solo career, participating in the popular show "Voice of the Country." Her subsequent releases, including the critically acclaimed album "Герой" and the mini-album "Форма," showcased her growth as an artist. DaKooka's music has been featured in the Ukrainian TV series "Early Swallows," and she continues to push boundaries in genres like electronic, trip-hop, and pop music.

Legacy

DaKooka's contributions to music have not gone unnoticed; she received the YUNA Music Award in 2022, solidifying her status as a prominent figure in the Ukrainian music scene. Her innovative sound and engaging performances have earned her a dedicated fanbase, and she remains a significant influence in the evolving landscape of contemporary music in Ukraine.
