Early Life

Hannah Dakota Fanning was born on February 23, 1994, in Conyers, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. Growing up in a family with a rich athletic background, her mother, Heather Joy, was a professional tennis player, while her father, Steven J. Fanning, played minor league baseball and later worked as an electronics salesman. Dakota attended a Montessori School in Covington and later graduated from Campbell Hall School in Studio City, California, where she was active in cheerleading and was twice voted homecoming queen. She pursued higher education at the Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University, focusing on women's studies and the portrayal of women in film and culture.

Career

Dakota Fanning began her acting career at the tender age of five, performing in small plays at the Towne Lake Arts Center in Woodstock, Georgia. She made her professional debut in a Tide television commercial in 1999, followed by guest roles in popular TV series like ER, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and The Practice. Her breakout role came in 2001 when she starred alongside Sean Penn and Michelle Pfeiffer in the film "I Am Sam," earning her a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination at just seven years old. This performance also led to her being featured in the music video for Rufus Wainwright's cover of the Beatles' "Across the Universe," showcasing her early connection to music in film.

In 2002, she was cast by Steven Spielberg in the miniseries "Taken," further solidifying her status as a talented young actress.
