Early Life

Deborah Ann Ryan was born on May 13, 1993, in Huntsville, Alabama, to Sandy and Chris Ryan. Growing up in a military family, she moved frequently, spending much of her early childhood in Germany until the age of ten. Ryan began her artistic journey at a young age, performing in professional theaters on American military bases. She attended both German and American public schools, as well as being homeschooled, and described herself as a "nerd" during her school years, facing bullying for her interests in activities like chess and being a school mascot.

Career

Ryan's career took off when she began appearing in television commercials as a teenager, making her debut on the show "Barney & Friends" in 2006. She gained significant recognition for her role as Bailey Pickett in the Disney Channel series "The Suite Life on Deck," which became a top-rated show among teens. Her film credits include roles in "16 Wishes" and "Radio Rebel," and she has continued to act in various projects, including the series "Insatiable" and films like "Night Teeth" and "Spin Me Round." In addition to acting, Ryan is also a talented singer-songwriter, with a musical style that blends folk, indie pop, and country, influenced by artists like The Lumineers and Mumford & Sons.

Personal Life

Ryan is a Christian and is fluent in German. She was previously in a relationship with Josh Dun, the drummer of Twenty One Pilots, and they married on December 31, 2019. Ryan has been open about her past experiences, including an abusive professional relationship that inspired her advocacy work against domestic violence. In 2016, she faced legal issues related to a DUI but has since moved forward positively. As of March 2023, she resides in Columbus, Ohio, with her husband, and they announced they are expecting their first child in September 2025.
