Early Life

Dennis William Quaid was born on April 9, 1954, in Houston, Texas, to Juanita Bonnie Dale "Nita" and William Rudy Quaid. He has a diverse ancestry that includes English, Irish, Scots-Irish, and Cajun roots. Quaid grew up in a Baptist household and is the younger brother of actor Randy Quaid. He attended local schools, where he developed an interest in the arts, studying Mandarin Chinese and dance at Bellaire High School. Quaid later pursued drama at the University of Houston under the guidance of drama coach Cecil Pickett.

Career

Quaid's acting career began in the mid-1970s when he made his film debut in an uncredited role in "Crazy Mama" (1975). He gained recognition with his performance in "Breaking Away" (1979) and continued to build his career with roles in various films, including "The Right Stuff" (1983), where he portrayed astronaut Gordon Cooper.
