Dino Merlin

Early Life

Edin Dervišhalidović, known professionally as Dino Merlin, was born on September 12, 1962, in the Alifakovac neighborhood of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Raised in a modest household, his father Abid was a carpenter, and his mother Fatima was a Muslim cleric. After his parents divorced when he was just seven, Dino was raised by his mother alongside his younger sister, Amina. He showed early promise in sports and music, captaining his school's soccer, basketball, and table tennis teams while also performing in a music duo with his childhood friend Mensur Lutvica.

Music Career

Dino's passion for music blossomed when his mother, despite her initial reservations, helped him buy his first guitar at the age of 12. By 14, he had penned his first song. Influenced by prominent Yugoslav musicians, he began performing on the streets of Sarajevo. Eventually, he formed the band Merlin with Lutvica and other musicians, which marked the beginning of his professional music career. Over the years, Dino has released numerous albums, including "Moja Bogda Sna," "Svjedok," and "Live Koševo 2004," establishing himself as a leading figure in the pop rock and folk-pop genres.

Personal Life and Philanthropy

Dino remains deeply connected to his roots, residing in the same house in Sarajevo where he grew up. He is a devoted father to two children, Naida and Hamza, and enjoys hobbies such as chess and skiing. Beyond music, Dino is known for his philanthropic efforts, including supporting scholarships for underprivileged children through the Hastor Foundation. He has also played a significant role in humanitarian efforts during crises, such as the 2014 Southeast Europe floods, and was honored with the International Humanitarian Award in 2013.
