Early Life

Emmelie Charlotte-Victoria de Forest was born in Randers, Denmark, to a Danish mother, Marianna Birgitte Gudnitz, and a Swedish father, Ingvar de Forest. Following her parents' divorce, she was raised by her mother in Mariager, Denmark, and spent part of her childhood in Stockholm, Sweden. De Forest has claimed to be a great-granddaughter of Edward VII of the United Kingdom, a story that was used in promotional materials for the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, although this claim has been discredited by researchers.

Music Career

De Forest's musical journey began at the age of nine when she started singing with her mother in the Steve Cameron Gospel Choir. By the age of 14, she was performing at music festivals and small venues alongside Scottish folk musician Fraser Neill. They released an album together, but it saw limited success, selling only 100 copies. At 18, she moved to Copenhagen to study at the Complete Vocal Institute, marking a significant step in her artistic development.

In 2013, Emmelie de Forest gained international fame by representing Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest with her song "Only Teardrops." She won the national selection at the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix and subsequently released her debut album, also titled "Only Teardrops," which featured twelve tracks, including the hit single. De Forest's performance at Eurovision was a triumph; she won the contest on May 18, 2013, with a total of 281 points, solidifying her status as a prominent figure in the music industry.
