Ewan McGregor

Early Life

Ewan Gordon McGregor was born on March 31, 1971, in Perth, Scotland, and raised in the nearby town of Crieff. He comes from a family of educators; his mother, Carol Diane, was a teacher, and his father, James Charles Stewart McGregor, was a physical education teacher. Ewan has an older brother, Colin, who served as a Tornado GR4 pilot in the Royal Air Force. After attending Morrison's Academy, he pursued his passion for drama, first working as a stagehand and then studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.

Career

McGregor's career took off shortly after graduating, landing a leading role in the Channel 4 series "Lipstick on Your Collar" in 1993. His film debut came with "Being Human" in 1994, but it was his role as Mark Renton in the cult classic "Trainspotting" (1996) that catapulted him to international fame. He showcased his musical talents in films like "Moulin Rouge!" and played the iconic role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Beyond acting, McGregor has released music, including the album "Long Way Down" and singles like "Choose Life" and "Come What May."

Philanthropy and Personal Life

Outside of his artistic endeavors, McGregor is known for his philanthropic work, particularly with UNICEF UK, which he has supported since 2004. He has traveled extensively for charity, witnessing UNICEF's impact in various countries. McGregor enjoys a vibrant personal life, dividing his time between Los Angeles and London, and is a fan of Manchester City F.C. He became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2016, allowing him to participate in the 2020 presidential election. In 2025, he reconnected with his roots by performing with his youth pipe band, the Morrison's Academy, in a special show for his parents.
