Formation

Faith No More originated in 1979 as a band called Sharp Young Men, formed by vocalist/guitarist Mike Morris and keyboardist Wade Worthington. The lineup evolved over the years, eventually solidifying in 1983 with the addition of drummer Mike Bordin, bassist Billy Gould, and guitarist Jim Martin. The band initially struggled to find a permanent lead vocalist, cycling through several members before Chuck Mosley joined in 1984, marking the beginning of their distinctive sound.

Breakthrough

The band's breakthrough came with the release of their 1989 album, "The Real Thing," featuring the iconic single "Epic." This album showcased their unique blend of genres, including alternative metal and funk metal, and propelled them into the mainstream. In 1988, Mike Patton replaced Mosley, further expanding their musical range. The subsequent album, "Angel Dust," released in 1992, solidified their reputation as innovators in the rock genre.

Legacy

Faith No More disbanded in 1998 but reunited in 2009, bringing back the original members, including Patton, Bordin, Gould, and Bottum. They continued to release music, including their 2015 album "Sol Invictus." The band's eclectic style and genre-blending have influenced numerous artists across various genres, with many citing them as a pivotal force in the evolution of alternative rock and metal. Their legacy is marked by their ability to defy categorization and their impact on the music scene, inspiring bands like Nirvana and Slipknot.
