Early Life

Franz Peter Schubert was born on January 31, 1797, in Himmelpfortgrund, Vienna, which was then part of the Archduchy of Austria. He was the twelfth child of Franz Theodor Florian Schubert, a parish schoolmaster, and Maria Elisabeth Katharina Vietz. Schubert's family had roots in Zuckmantel, Austrian Silesia, and his father was a well-respected educator. From a young age, Schubert showed remarkable musical talent, receiving piano lessons from his brother Ignaz. By the age of six, he had already surpassed his brother's instruction, demonstrating a natural aptitude for music that would define his life.

Career

Despite his short life, which ended on November 19, 1828, Schubert was an incredibly prolific composer, creating over 1,000 works. His oeuvre includes more than 600 Lieder (songs), seven complete symphonies, and a wealth of chamber music and piano compositions. Notable works include the famous "Erlkönig," the "Unfinished Symphony" No. 8, and the "Trout Quintet." Schubert's music is characterized by its lyrical melodies and rich harmonies, bridging the Classical and Romantic eras.
