Early Life

Gary Anthony James Webb, known professionally as Gary Numan, was born on March 8, 1958, in Hammersmith, West London. Growing up in a family with a father who worked as a British Airways bus driver, Numan's early life was marked by a passion for music. He was educated at several schools, including Ashford County Grammar School and Slough Grammar School, and later attended Brooklands Technical College. His musical journey began when he received a Gibson Les Paul guitar at the age of 15, which became his most treasured possession. Numan played in various bands before forming Tubeway Army, where he would find his true calling.
