Biography
Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Colin Murray "Gem" Archer, born in Great Britain, embarked on his musical journey in the early 1980s as the lead guitarist for a band called The Edge. This group released two singles, "Take a Walk" and "Little Girl Blue". Following this, Archer joined the Contenders in 1987 and later formed Whirlpool in 1991, signing with Food Records and EMI Publishing.
Heavy Stereo and Rise to Fame
In 1993, Archer formed the alternative rock band Heavy Stereo, which included bassist Nez and guitarist Pete Downing. They released their only studio album, "Déjà Voodoo," in 1996 under Creation Records. Although the album did not achieve significant commercial success, Heavy Stereo gained attention through their contributions to tribute albums and by touring with Paul Weller.
Joining Oasis
Archer's big break came when he was invited to join the iconic rock band Oasis after the departure of Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs. He made his debut in the band by appearing in the video for "Go Let It Out" and contributed his first songwriting effort, "Hung in a Bad Place," to their fifth album, "Heathen Chemistry." His involvement with Oasis solidified his status in the music industry, leading to further projects with bands like Beady Eye and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.
Personal Life
Archer faced a significant health scare in August 2013 when he suffered serious head trauma and a fractured skull from a fall at home. Fortunately, he recovered and returned to music. In November 2022, he married Christine Mary Biller in London, marking a new chapter in his personal life.
