Gnarls Barkley

Formation

Gnarls Barkley was formed in 2006, emerging as a unique American soul duo comprised of singer-songwriter CeeLo Green and producer Danger Mouse. The duo's inception was marked by a serendipitous meeting at the University of Georgia, where Green was performing and Danger Mouse won a DJ contest. Their collaboration began with tracks like "What You Sittin' On?" in 2004 and "Benzi Box" in 2005, setting the stage for their debut album.

Breakthrough

The duo released their debut studio album, **St. Elsewhere**, in 2006, which featured the iconic single "Crazy." This track achieved remarkable success, peaking at number two on the US Hot 100 and topping the UK Singles Chart. "Crazy" was nominated for Record of the Year at the 2007 Grammy Awards and helped the album earn a nomination for Album of the Year. Following this success, Gnarls Barkley released their second album, **The Odd Couple**, in 2008, which was initially set for an April release but came out early due to an internet leak. The album received positive reviews, solidifying their place in the music industry.

Later Years and Legacy

After a period of relative silence, Gnarls Barkley made a comeback in 2026 with their third and final album, **Atlanta**. Throughout their career, they garnered numerous accolades, including awards from the BET Awards, Grammy Awards, and MTV Video Music Awards. Their influence on the music scene is underscored by the recognition of their hit "Crazy" as the number one song in Rolling Stone's 100 Best Songs of the Decade in 2009. Gnarls Barkley's innovative blend of genres, including alternative rock, neo soul, and electronic music, has left a lasting impact on the music landscape.
