Early Life

Golshifteh Farahani, born Rahavard Farahani in Tehran, Iran, is a talented actress and musician known for her diverse artistic contributions. She was born into a creative family, with her father, Behzad Farahani, being a theatre director and actor, and her mother, Fahimeh Rahiminia, a stage actress. The name Golshifteh, meaning 'loving flower', was invented by her father, while her legal name translates to 'gift of the road'. From a young age, she showed a passion for music, beginning her piano studies at just five years old and later attending a music school in Tehran. At 14, she gained recognition for her lead role in Dariush Mehrjui's film The Pear Tree, which won her the Crystal Roc for Best Actress at the Fajr International Film Festival.

Career

Farahani's career took off with her performance in the acclaimed drama About Elly, which won Best Picture at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival. However, her appearance in Ridley Scott's Body of Lies led to her being banned from returning to Iran due to her portrayal without a hijab, which was deemed a violation of Islamic law. Since relocating to France, she has collaborated with notable directors such as Jim Jarmusch and Marjane Satrapi, and starred in films like The Patience Stone and Paterson, the latter receiving critical acclaim.
