Guano Apes

Formation and Early Success

Guano Apes, a prominent German rock band, was formed in 1994 in Göttingen by guitarist Henning Rümenapp, bassist Stefan Ude, and drummer Dennis Poschwatta. Later that year, they welcomed vocalist Sandra Nasić into the fold, solidifying the lineup that would propel them to fame. Their breakthrough came in 1996 when they won the "Local Heroes" competition hosted by VIVA, outperforming over 1,000 competitors with their hit single "Open Your Eyes." This success led to the release of their debut album, *Proud Like a God*, in October 1997, which peaked at number 4 in Germany and achieved platinum status. The album featured other notable singles such as "Lords of the Boards" and "Rain," the latter of which was part of an 18-month tour across Europe and the United States.

Continued Success and Evolution

Following their debut, Guano Apes released their second studio album, *Don't Give Me Names*, in November 2000. This album included popular singles like "Big in Japan" and "No Speech," further cementing their place in the rock scene. They continued to evolve with subsequent albums, including *Walking on a Thin Line* and *Bel Air*, showcasing their versatility within the alternative rock and nu metal genres. The band has maintained a consistent lineup since its inception, with all members—Nasić, Rümenapp, Ude, and Poschwatta—still active today.
