Early Life

Guy Edward Pearce was born on October 5, 1967, in Ely, Cambridgeshire, England. His father, Stuart Pearce, was a Royal New Zealand Air Force pilot and RAF test pilot, while his mother, Anne Cocking, was an English schoolteacher. At the age of three, Pearce's family moved to Geelong, Victoria, Australia, where he grew up alongside his elder sister, Tracy. Tragically, his father passed away in an aircraft accident when Pearce was just eight years old. He attended Geelong College and became involved in the Geelong Society of Operatic and Dramatic Arts Junior Players, performing in various amateur theatre productions from a young age.

Career

Pearce's career began in television when he was cast in the Australian soap opera "Neighbours" in 1986, where he played Mike Young for three years. He made his film debut in the 1991 movie "Heaven Tonight," directed by Frank Howson, who also helped launch Pearce's career by funding his trip to the Cannes Film Festival. Pearce gained international recognition for his role as a drag queen in "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" (1994) and went on to star in notable films such as "L.A. Confidential," "Memento," and "The King's Speech." His performance in the limited series "Mildred Pierce" earned him a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor.

Personal Life

In March 1997, Pearce married his childhood sweetheart, psychologist Kate Mestitz, but the couple divorced in 2015 after 18 years of marriage. He later entered a relationship with Dutch actress Carice van Houten, with whom he has a son born in August 2016. Pearce has been vocal about various social issues, including animal conservation and solidarity with Palestine. However, he faced controversy in late 2025 for sharing posts from a Holocaust-denying figure, which he later apologized for, stating it was an inadvertent mistake.
