H.E.R.

Early Life

Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson, known professionally as H.E.R., was born on June 27, 1997, in Vallejo, California. Growing up in a musically inclined family, her father, an African-American musician, hosted band practice sessions in their living room, while her Filipina mother’s family included guitarists and vocalists. These early influences shaped her passion for music, leading her to perform at a young age, including a notable appearance on the Today Show at just ten years old.

Career

H.E.R.'s career began in earnest when she signed with RCA Records at the age of 14. Initially performing under her real name, she released her debut single "Something to Prove" in 2014. However, it was her rebranding in 2016 as H.E.R. that marked a significant turning point. Her debut EP, "H.E.R. Vol. 1," released in September 2016, showcased her unique sound, blending contemporary R&B with emotional depth. Over the years, she has released several successful albums and EPs, including "I Used to Know Her" and "Back of My Mind," earning critical acclaim and numerous awards, including five Grammy Awards and an Academy Award for Best Original Song.
