Early Life

Tracy Lauren Marrow, known professionally as Ice-T, was born on February 16, 1958, in Newark, New Jersey. He was raised by his father, Solomon, after his mother, Alice, passed away when he was in third grade. Growing up in an upscale neighborhood, Ice-T faced early experiences with racism, which shaped his perspective on life. His father worked as a conveyor belt mechanic, and Ice-T's childhood was marked by a mix of privilege and the harsh realities of race relations in America.

Career

Ice-T began his career in the 1980s as an underground rapper, adopting his stage name as a tribute to Iceberg Slim. He gained recognition for his rapping skills and was signed to Sire Records in 1987, releasing his debut album, "Rhyme Pays." His follow-up album, "Power," released in 1988, became his only platinum-certified album. Ice-T's subsequent works, including "The Iceberg/Freedom of Speech... Just Watch What You Say!" and "O.G. Original Gangster," solidified his status in the hip-hop scene. He is also known for his heavy metal influences and formed the band Body Count, which blended rock and rap, paving the way for future rap-rock fusions.

Personal Life

Ice-T's personal life has been as dynamic as his career. He became a father at a young age and later had a son with his girlfriend Darlene Ortiz. In 2002, he married model Coco Austin, and they have a daughter together. Ice-T is a teetotaler and practices Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and boxing, showcasing his commitment to a healthy lifestyle. His activism and political views have also been prominent, particularly during the rise of gangsta rap, where he often addressed social issues in his music.
