Early Life

Isabelle Yasmine Adjani was born on June 27, 1955, in the 17th arrondissement of Paris, France. She is the daughter of Mohammed Cherif Adjani, an Algerian Muslim, and Emma Augusta "Gusti" Schweinberger, a German Catholic. Growing up bilingual in French and German, Adjani was immersed in a culturally rich environment. Her parents met during World War II, and despite her mother's initial language barrier, they settled in Paris. Adjani's passion for acting ignited at a young age, leading her to perform in amateur theater by the age of 12.

Career

Adjani's professional acting career began at 14 with her first film role in "Le Petit Bougnat" (1970). She gained recognition as a classical actress at the Comédie-Française, where her portrayal of Agnès in Molière's "L'École des femmes" garnered critical acclaim. Her breakthrough came in 1975 with François Truffaut's "The Story of Adèle H.,” earning her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, making her the youngest nominee at that time.
