Jackson Wang

Early Life

Jackson Wang was born on March 28, 1994, in Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong, into a family of athletes. His father, Wang Ruiji, was an Olympian fencer, while his mother, Zhou Ping, was a gymnast for the Chinese national team. Growing up, Jackson initially pursued gymnastics but switched to fencing at the age of ten, inspired by his father's coaching and the national team's training. He quickly excelled in the sport, winning numerous medals, including an Asian gold medal and ranking as the top cadet and junior sabre fencer in Hong Kong.

Career

Wang's career took a significant turn when he joined the South Korean boy band GOT7, which debuted under JYP Entertainment in 2014. His artistic journey continued to evolve as he ventured into solo music, releasing his first album, "MIRRORS," in 2019, which peaked at number 32 on the US Billboard 200. He followed this with his second album, "MAGIC MAN," in 2022, reaching number 15, and his third album, "MAGIC MAN 2," set for release in 2025. Jackson's music blends pop, hip-hop, and R&B, drawing inspiration from artists like Michael Jackson and Post Malone. He emphasizes the importance of writing his own lyrics, believing it makes him irreplaceable in the industry.

Personal Life

Despite his success, Jackson faced challenges in his education, dropping out of school to pursue his career in South Korea. He is multilingual, fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, and English, and is currently studying Japanese. Jackson is also known for his philanthropic efforts, including significant donations to earthquake relief efforts in China and Thailand. He has expressed pride in his Chinese heritage and aims to represent Chinese artists on the global stage, stating his goal is to showcase that "Chinese kids are working on good music too."
