Jason Schwartzman was born on June 26, 1980, in Los Angeles, California, into a prominent family in the entertainment industry. He is the son of actress Talia Shire and film producer Jack Schwartzman, and he has a rich cultural heritage, describing himself as "half Polish Jewish and half Italian."
