Early Life

Dame Joan Henrietta Collins was born on May 23, 1933, in Paddington, London, to a dance teacher and a talent agent. Growing up in Maida Vale, she was exposed to the arts from a young age, making her stage debut at just nine years old. Collins attended the Francis Holland School and later trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), where she honed her acting skills. By 17, she was signed by the Rank Organisation, marking the beginning of her illustrious career in film.

Career

Collins made her film debut in 1951 and quickly gained recognition for her sultry image, earning the nickname "England's Bad Girl." Her breakthrough role came in 1952 with the film "I Believe in You," which showcased her talent and led to a series of successful films throughout the 1950s. Notable works included "Cosh Boy" and "The Good Die Young." Over the years, she transitioned into television, becoming a household name with her role in the iconic series "Dynasty," which earned her a Golden Globe Award and a Primetime Emmy nomination. Personal Life

Collins has been married five times and has three children. Her first marriage to actor Maxwell Reed was tumultuous, leading to a divorce after just four years. She later married singer-songwriter Anthony Newley, with whom she had two children, but their relationship ended due to his infidelity. Collins faced personal challenges, including her daughter's serious car accident, which she described as the worst experience of her life. Despite these hardships, she has remained a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, known for her philanthropy and advocacy for children's causes.

Legacy

In recognition of her contributions to drama and charity, Collins was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1997 and later became a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in 2015.
